Rowing - Saturday, 16th September

Sports Report - Stowe Rowing at Oxford

The Stowe rowing year got off to a flying start, with a trip to Oxford on Saturday 16th September, for the popular Isis Sculls competition. This pleasant early season opener is supported by the local Oxford clubs and some very competitive school teams.

The Stowe 1st IV were delighted to record the 4th fastest time of the day, out of over 226 boats. After racing the mile-long course, the crew of Oscar Hill, Ayrton Patel, James Pocklington and Archie Morley (6:43.0), could not be separated by more than 1 second, from the winning Falcon Club crew (6:42.1).

In the competitive Junior-17 singles Archie Morley (7:58.1) finished an impressive 6th (17), sandwiched between the fastest scullers from Westminster School and ahead of most of the leading Radley College 1st VIII, who contested the Henley Royal Regatta Final, against Melbourne in the Summer.

James Pocklington and Aytron Patel (7:37.8) finished 2nd in Junior-18 doubles, to a very fast Westminster boat.

Oscar Hill (8:28.7) sculled technically, but found the competition from Westminster and Radley tough in Junior-18 singles.

Elliot Patel and Tom Fox (8:45.8) sculled well, finishing 5th in Junior-17 doubles.

Charlie Chick (9:17.3) finished 9th in J15 singles, while Theo Finlan (11:02.8) 12th also gained experience, negotiating the tricky Isis course.

In the J15 doubles Charlie and Finlan (8:13.7) were sandwiched between Winchester crews, finishing a promising 5th (8).

The Stoics were taken by Mr Righton and Mr Rudkin and everyone was grateful for the support of the Stowe parents.

The next event is Evesham Junior Head on Saturday 14th October, where we hope Stowe will be represented by three quads, including the promising 4th form crew of Barnaby Peppiatt, Alex Ross, Theo Finlan and Charlie Chick.
