Bath 8’s Tournament

Saturday saw Stowe take our 1st X and 2nd X down to Bath to compete in the Bath 8’s Tournament. This is a wonderful opportunity for Stoics to experience what Lacrosse can offer after they leave School, at University and Club level. It was a great standard of Lacrosse all round and the girls had an enjoyable day, despite the early start.

We played six games throughout the day, the first of which was a 3-3 draw. Seeing two excellent goals from Bella Timmis and one from Suraya Hashimi. The second match was a difficult one against Derby, a 4-1 loss, but the girls adjusted very well to the change in pace and we had another goal from Bella Timmis in the second half. The third match saw us face Cambridge, a 3-3 draw, with some excellent saves from Orlaith Massie and great work by Domino Flint Wood taking charge in the defense. Three goals again from Bella Timmis!

Our fourth match was the most competitive of the tournament. Two quick goals saw us 2-0 down, however our defensive set up of Honor Leslie, Chloe Pearce and Domino Flint Wood saw us turnover possession several times back to our attack. Izzy Harris started our comeback with an impressive crease dodge. (2-1). Another turnover in the defense brought the ball to one of our new additions to the 2nd X, Mary Jones, who had a fantastic dodge on goal. (2-1). Orlaith Massie made an incredible save from a free position, clearing out to Izzy Harris who only slightly missed another great shot. Two more goals from the opposition saw us 2-3 down. Bella Timmis and Izzy Russell worked together in the midfield to create two excellent goals, one each, to bring us back up to 4-3. Another goal from the opposition. (4-4). In the final seconds of the match, Izzy Harris scored the winning goal. Superstar.

Two more matches followed, one with a 3-3 draw, two goals from Bella Timmis and one from Ruadh McCarthy Wyper. The other a 4-0 loss against a very strong opposition.

Overall, a very beneficial day for our 2nd X. Only two training sessions as a new squad and we performed exceptionally. We are very excited for the season to come! Well done, girls!
