Match Report

On: Saturday, 09 Nov 2024
Venue: at Home

The Lions were looking forward to the prospect of taking on the Berkhamsted team who were clearly having an excellent season having won all their matches against some very strong schools. The first half was a wonderful tussle as Berkhamsted showed signs of their clear quality, but the Stoics stood firm and competed with real energy and vigour in all aspects. Stowe scored a well deserved try when Ben Sutton found a nice pass to release Zac Julyan for the try, The score was 7-10 at half time. A couple of small mistakes were heavily punished by the clinical Berkhamsted side, so we found ourselves trailing by13 points soon after half time, but we stuck at it and showed good character. Will Otter was outstanding as a leader, Jack Buckingham and Tomasin Ibitoye stepped up to embrace the physical challenge. In the backs, Lucas Foster stepped in at fly half and controlled the game well, Archie Trotman and Luke Mayo showed flashes of their talented running in the centres. Berkhamsted did score two late tries, but Stowe were rewarded with some points when Ben Sutton intercepted a pass to cross and bring the end results to 12-32. Hats off to the opposition, they were undoubtedly strong, but we also showed great competitive spirit and we look forward to the remaining three matches.

Forward of the match was Zac Julyan, Back of the match was Ben Sutton.
