The Lions were very much up for this match, with it being the last time the U6th would run out on the North Front pitch. We played with the better of the elements in the 1st half, and hoped to build a lead, but Uppingham had other ideas and put up a decent show in defence of their line. Eventually Louis Morgan Smith crashed over and Bear converted and we went into half time 7-5 up.
The message at half time, was - just stick to your patterns and keep doing what we are doing, our fitness will shine through and we will wear them down. And in fact that is exactly what happened. The squad do conditioning on Tuesday afternoons and their attitude to this element of preparation has been superb. We ALWAYS do sprint training once a week as well as CV training. The boys are fit and athletic and confident in their ability to maintain the intensity in second half. Stowe pulled away in the last 20 minutes with tries for Sam Percy, Ben Sutton, and a skilful dive finish for Luke Mayo.
Players of the match were: Backs - Bear Hewlett and forwards - Zac Julyan.
